Intelligent lighting is computerized lighting. Each fixture contains electronics that operates from software much like a home computer does. Before deciding to invest in intelligent lighting, I did some market research; much like what you’re doing now.

Intelligent lighting was invented in Europe. European companies seem to develop the best in intelligent lighting technology so I decided to go that route. I wanted to find an intelligent lighting scanner that had separate color and gobo wheels. I also wanted to find an intelligent lighting scanner that had stepper motors rather than older, conventional servo motors. Stepper motors are magnetic, they contain no gears and unlike servo motors they move with far more precision and smoothness.

I considered investing in the RoboScan 812; an intelligent lighting scanner from a reputable company called Martin out of Denmark, however I did not care for the software limitations from the preprogrammed controllers Martin had to offer so I chose to deal with an American vendor who temporarily carried a product line from a European company out of Leicester, England called Abstract.

Unfortunately, many third world countries such as Taiwan are now producing far more affordable intelligent lighting products that are not of the same caliber as European design, and many American companies tend to lean more and more toward that more affordable product line however, rest assured, our intelligent lighting fixtures may bear the name American DJ but they incorporate European technology of Abstract’s Futurescan 2CE.

Unlike Martin’s RoboScan 812, the Abstract Futurescan 2CE contains preprogrammed software which enables the fixtures to have far more diversity. Manual strobing, as well as speed control and sound activation can be performed during any program sequence. Abstract’s Futurescan 2CE also contains preprogrammed software which enables the fixtures to be assigned to (2) separate chase pattern groups which interchange with one another during any chase sequence, giving an illusion of having more intelligent lighting then is actually there.
